ADDRESS BY H.E. MUHAMMADU BUHARI, PRESIDENT OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA ON THE COVID- 19 PANDEMIC SUNDAY 29TH MARCH, 202 1. Fellow Nigerians, 2. From the first signs that Coronavirus, or COVID-19 was turning into an epidemic and was officially declared a world-wide emergency, the Federal Government started planning preventive, containment and curative measures in the event the disease hits Nigeria. 3. The whole instruments of government are now mobilized to confront what has now become both a health emergency and an economic crisis. 4. Nigeria, unfortunately, confirmed its first case on 27th February 2020. Since then, we have seen the number of confirmed cases rise slowly. 5. By the morning of March 29th, 2020, the total confirmed cases within Nigeria had risen to ninety-seven. 6. BOMB IN TRANSIT EXPLODE ALONG AKURE OWO EXPRESS..

Explosion rocked Akure overnight, destroyed houses and road.. In the  early hours of Saturday March 28th, a vehicle in a convoy transporting explosives to a storage facility in a neighbouring state developed a fault while in transit along the Akure Owo Road about 2km from the Akure Airport. Security personnel and other individuals transporting the ordinances noticed smoke from the vehicle. After several attempts to extinguish the resulting fire failed, the vehicle and its consignment ignited causing a massive explosion that was felt in Akure and its environs.

Tremor in country's north sends people running into the streets Italians poured out of their homes in the country's north this afternoon after an earthquake shook Tuscany amid the nation's growing coronavirus outbreak. The 2.6-magnitude quake, which struck around a mile north of Camaiore, was recorded by the Italian Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology at 2.17pm local time. It had an epicenter in the Lucca province in Tuscany and a depth of around five miles, ANSA reported. There were initially no reports of damage as a result of the tremor, though people in Camaiore and nearby Viareggio noted feeling 'vibrations from the ground'. It was also reported people across Versilia had 'poured out of their houses' when the quake struck the area this afternoon.
